100 Years and Counting

“It’s a big happy birthday,” proclaims Don George, ALS, President of the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association. “Our association will be 100 years old on March 19, 2010, the hundredth anniversary of Royal Assent of the Alberta Land Surveyors Act.”

“From history books and our association historical records we can tell that it was a proud moment for the Alberta Land Surveyors of the day,” adds George. “None of them however could have imagined the tremendous transformation of our province over the ensuing time. The job of the land surveyor remains essentially the same—we measure and determine land boundaries—but the way we do it is dramatically different.” (read more...)

Purchaser Faces Additional $10,000 Bill

“I would never buy another property without seeing a Real Property Report (RPR),” says Jim Smith of North-Central Alberta. “The property I bought is causing me a lot of problems.”

The new property purchaser is now facing surveying and legal fees that may exceed $10,000, something that would not have occurred had he seen the RPR that had been prepared for the property. After buying the property, Smith learned that his garage extended five metres onto a road allowance and the house did not meet the set-back requirements as prescribed in the municipal land-use bylaws. GEOSPARK in the News

Thanks to the support of Community Futures Peace Country, we had a feature article written about us in the Small Business Supplement contained in this weeks edition (October 27th publish date) of the Peace River Record-Gazette. Michelle Higgins did a very nice job. See article below (click on image for larger version).

We recently had Leah Wood Photography do our family pictures. Even with a fussy Parker, they turned out very nice. Enjoy!

Nice Weather for the BBQ!

Well, after watching the rain pour down all day yesterday, I must say we lucked out with the weather on Saturday. Not too hot, not too cold, and just a minor drizzle of rain later in the night/early morning hours.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to our BBQ. We enjoyed the company of the following guests:

Doug, Rhonda, Connor, and Cora Frith
Corey (and brother Colin), Launa, Avery, and Logan Johnson
Mike, Pam, Mikaela, and Aidyn Isaak
Pam's family... Mark, Linda, and Dustin
Vini and Ginger Balester with Kathy and Marsha
Nolan, Mandy, Samantha, and Shana
Ryan, Sarah, Raylee, and Oscar Gordon with guest
Ross and Sue Metcalfe
Jim and Pearl Campbell
Brian DeCoste
Shane Wilson
Jackie Lee
Heather Ruryk

Thanks to Kathy for the thumber wars and arm wrestling with the kids... hopefully they weren't too hard on you.

Looks like Avery Johnson is about to beat Kathy in this arm wrestle...

Thanks to Mike Isaak and the Peace Country Co-op for all the help with the food, particularly the tasty steaks and chicken.

Thanks to the Peace River Fire Department for the use of their fancy NEW BBQ donated by ATCO Gas. GEOSPARK is donating $100 towards the Peace River Fire Fighters Association as a small thank-you.

Of course we will be planning another BBQ next year, and we look forward to making it bigger and better each year.

1st Annual BBQ and Campout

Preparations are underway for our 1st Annual BBQ and Campout sponsored by GEOSPARK SURVEYS. We are looking forward to some juicy steaks (and chicken) prepared on the Peace River Fire Department's fancy NEW BBQ. Add to this some cold beer and good company and it should prove to be a fun event. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday Sept. 5th.
